TAS has a long history of community outreach, one of the recent endeavors aiming to outreach the younger generation is to partner with NASA and become one of their official youth service organizations for the NASA’s ASTRO CAMP® program. The program's goal is to bring NASA STEM Engagement-Science Mission activities to grades K-12 in their own community.
You can find our organization being listed here as an official NASA ASTRO CAMP® Community Partner here: https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/atoms/files/nasa_accp_collaborators_chart_6-2-23.pdf

After engaging in interactive and NASA-based STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning activities, future astronauts and engineers will be motivated to pursue a career in space exploration. NASA-designed project-based learning activities will enable program attendees to develop their critical-thinking and collaboration skills as they work with fellow students to design a space mission of their own. We will be reinforcing basic biology, chemistry, and physics skills, while also introducing students to engineering principles and mathematics that they will employ in their future classwork and careers. With our program material coming straight from NASA-designed initiatives, this is an authentic opportunity for Coppell student citizens to immerse themselves in engaging, stimulating STEM activities. Many learners have budding passions for STEM fields, but lack a proper outlet to explore those interests, which is a gap we are attempting to fill.
In a groundbreaking initiative to make space science education more inclusive, NASA's Astro Camp is extending its reach to students with disabilities and low-income youth in Kenya. This expansion is made possible through a collaboration between NASA Astro Camp partner Spacetime Archives and the educational nonprofit based in Nairobi, Kenya, the Ready Aiders Foundation. By joining forces, these organizations aim to break down educational barriers and provide unique opportunities for students who may face challenges accessing quality science education. Through engaging activities and innovative learning approaches, the partnership seeks to inspire a passion for space exploration among a diverse range of students, fostering a more equitable future in STEM fields. This endeavor represents a significant step toward democratizing access to space science education and nurturing the potential of young minds in underserved communities.
Recognizing the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in science education, NASA Astro Camp has embraced innovation by transitioning into a virtual event held over Zoom. This strategic move aims to increase accessibility, ensuring that aspiring space enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds, regardless of geographical location, can participate in this enriching experience. By leveraging the power of digital platforms, NASA Astro Camp has not only eliminated geographical constraints but also opened up new possibilities for students who may face mobility challenges. This virtual approach aligns with the evolving landscape of education, democratizing access to valuable STEM experiences and fostering a more inclusive community of future space explorers. The shift to a virtual format not only accommodates the current global circumstances but also reflects NASA's commitment to making space science education more equitable and accessible for all.
